THE WORTH OF GOD'S WORD! (B)
Ps. 138:2
b

"I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. . . . 0 LORD . . . for great is the glory of the LORD" (Ps. 138:2-5)

Intro: What value do you put upon The word of God?
ILL. 5000x Found in The Bible. imraw translated "word" refers to God's: Word, promises, truth, oracles, and sayings.

I. THE RECOGNITION OF THE WORTH
  A. Value - magnified: given greater value
   
1. The Name of The LORD(Ex. 6:3; Ps. 34:3; 83:18)
   
2. The Name of the Lord Jesus Christ
  
      a. Salvation (Acts 4:12) b. Attention (Mt. 17:5) c. Adoration (Phil. 2:9)

God's Word is used by The Holy Spirit to provide:
       
a. Salvation (Heb. 2:1-4)
       
b. Regeneration (I Pet. 1:23)
       
c. Sanctification (Jn. 17:17)
  B. Veneration - honour, reverence (Phil 2:9)
  C. Validity - executed with proper legal authority (Jn. 5:22,27,30;12:47-50;
          Jude 14,15)

  D. Veracity - truthfulness; faithfulness (Jn. 17:17; Jas. 1:18; I Th. 2:13)

II. THE REACTIONS TO THE WORTH
  A. Rejection in part or the whole, immediately or after acceptance
          (Mk. 4:3-20). We are responsible for being the type of soil we are!
  B. Too deep or too shallow (I Cor. 2:9-13)
  C. Reception balanced or unbalanced - Cherish and revere The Word or
         Worship the Bible (bibliolatry)

  D. Reading through or reading at random (Mt. 12:3,5; Mk. 12:10,26)
  E. Heartily and readily receive and reflect or rationalize.

III. THE RECEPTION OF THE WORD
  A. Attention & Acceptance (I Tim. 4:13; Acts 17:11; I Th. 2:13)
  B. Awe & Accuracy (2Tim.2:15-correctly read and interpret; 2Pet. 3:16)
  C. Authority & Accountability
  D. Acknowledgment & Application Joseph (Ps. 105:19; Gen. 45:7,8; 50:20)
          waited 22 yrs. in Egypt for God's Word to be fulfilled. The less time we spend
          in God's Word, the longer it will take God to mature
us.

CONCLUSION:
What value will you place on God's Word?
The length of time you spend in it will determine the value you give it! How much time will you devote to study? How much attention? To what length will you go to get a deep understanding of the Word of God? For what amount of time will you settle to know God's Word to your fullest ability? How accurately will you interpret God's Word? How faithfully will you apply it in your life?
